- The energy released at the source of the earthquake.
- Hazard Level
- Ground acceleration, Maximum water depth, Ash Thickness,Acceleration at selected frequencies or modes are examples of Hazard levels.
- Exposure Level
- Population density or Infrastructures (house of building type or dollars per sqm)
- Impact
- Number of fatalities / Dollar Losses / Buildings Collapsed for example
- Risk
- Impact with an associated probability - how bad and how often
- Return Period
- Inverse of probability. e.g. 100 year flood - flood event of probability of 1% per year
